General information.
Fluoxetine is antidepressant belonging to active inhibitors of return capture of serotonine by nerve endings, only a little effecting capture of Noradrenalinum and Dofaminum. Low effect on receptorss of on cholinergic and Í1-hystamine receptors.
Is applied at different kinds of depression (especially cures depressions accompanied by pavor). Usual dose for adults is 20 mg a day (ingestion). Several weeks later increase the dose by 20 mg a day. The maximal daily dose is 80 mg. Elderly and senile persons should not intake dosages over 60 mg a day.
If taken once a day (20 mg) it should be taken in the morning, at double intake it should be ingested in the morning and in the afternoon.
The drug is well absorbed. Maximal concentration in blood plasma can be marked in 4—8 hours after intake, half-existence period is about 3 days. It is extracted in the form of active metabolite (desmetyl Fluoxetyne) within 1 week.
An exprecced medicinal effect can be observed after 1—4 weeks after starting the treatment.
Patients, as a rule, take the drug easily. In connection with low anticholinergic action rather seldomly provokes constipation, mouth dryness (compared to amitriptyline and others tricyclic antidepressants). Can cause drowsiness,a headache, nausea, vomiting, appetite loss (has anorexigenic effect).
It should not be taken simultaneously with MAO inhibitors and not earlier than 14 days after termination of their intake. Alcohol drinking prohibited.
